a multimedia
performance that questions the sentiments of parental ownership of children,
and the extent that these beliefs endure as children enter into adulthood.
using personal household relics, the project explores the dynamics of the
artist’s relationship with his mother by creating an analogy between inanimate
kitchen utensils and his physical presence. the performance references arabic
kitchen lexicons that are associated with the domestication of femininity, and
its imposition of heteronormative roles in society.
