the performance examines the intricate connections between food, memory, and the acclimatization of the body in a foreign land. rooted in the personal experience of encountering meerrettich (horseradish) as a traditional german food, the performance reflects on themes of identity and homeland. by questioning what it means to belong, the work becomes a journey of self-transformation and the process of finding—or creating—home(s).

at the climax of the performance, the attending audience became involuntarily part of it—the sharp, invasive scent of grated meerrettich filled the air, stinging their eyes and throats, transforming the room into a collective site of weeping and compassion. a funeral house to mourn the death of the past and its memories. the personal struggle became collective, mirroring the way food fosters shared experiences.
